So I discovered over the weekend that CMT does play my kind of music every night on the show Wide Open Country. On the last few shows I’ve seen lots of the folks I’ve written about here including Trampled by Turtles, Jack Ingram, The Josh Abbott Band, Allison Kraus and others! Last night one of the videos was from band named Blackberry Smoke for their song “Good One Comin’ On” it’s a good song as any song would be that mentions Ray Wylie Hubbard and “Up Against the Wall”. So this morning the first album I listened to was Little Piece of Dixie which is the band’s second full album to go along with two EPs. From their website biography:
Atlanta based Blackberry Smoke continues to grow into the premiere Southern Rock band of America. Over the last 12 months they have shared the stage with ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shooter Jennings, Cross Canadian Ragweed and countless others.
Overall the album was good and at some point will get downloaded and
put on the player for some further listening! Some press from the website:
Blackberry Smoke is indefectibly aged, smooth as silk, southern rock.
Perfectly in stride with Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special and The Four Horsemen, these four longhairs are all about traveling the country road, good times with girls and plenty of drinking. Touted by Brian Johnson of AC/DC as “a band that will never go hungry”, Blackberry Smoke blends the boogie woogie and ballads like master distillers. Eight studio tracks and three live ones; this is music from well below the Mason-Dixon Line. Endearing jukebox faves, hot radio tunes and songs set for sitting on the old creaky porch – better than a heaping plate of Aunt Maude’s down home cooking………. 9.5 out of 10″
