Jimmy Thackery – Blues Guitar Virtuoso

Jimmy Thackery – Band Jimmy Thackery & the Drivers

Born:May 19, 1953

I first discovered Jimmy Thackery &the Drivers in the late 90s, in the period where my sons and I visited Tunes Used CD store in Marlton every week. My introduction to his music was  his 1994 release Trouble Man that I picked up on cassette. I’m listening to it now remembering what a great album it is! Check it out!! I loved the album since then several of his albums are in my music library. I must say that over the last several years I’ve lost track of his career, hum, maybe his birthday is a good day to start reconnecting….. from AllMusic…. read more

Thursday Mix leads to Jimmy Thackery

Ok so today was a mixed up day! It started by listening to some more Big Daddy “O” but instead of listening to the album What You Gotta Go Through that I listened to yesterday, I couldn’t resist the title of another of Big Daddy’s albums, which was Deranged Covers. Which ironically is an album of covers but far from being Deranged they are really good! The opening track is a good cover of “Crossroads”. Other tracks include: “Built for Comfort”, “Stormy Weather”, “Autumn Leaves”, and really nice covers of “Just Dropped In”, and “A Song for You”. All of the tracks get a folksy blues treatment from Big Daddy “O” which includes a voice that I really like and some good guitar picking! I think this album and other Big Daddy albums are going to stay around for a while on the player!! read more
