Great Blues from Anthony Geraci Drives My Morning Run

Since my last post way back on June 11th, I have written drafts of several posts and haven’t completed any of them! So I’m not going to go into a big explanation about why I haven’t posted I’m just going to post something and then move on!

So over the last month plus I have ran two to three days every week. Most of them have been run at a pace slower than I was running last year. But considering I usually don’t run at all during the summer months I think running slower beats not running! read more

New Blues Albums from Mayall, Karp, Ellis and Morvan

New Blues Albums – March 3, 2018

I haven’t posted here in a long, long while, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been seeking out and listening to new music. I just have been writing at ekkarn.com instead. However, it may be time to start this blog up again.

With that being said let’s jump right back into some blues. A few days ago I was reviewing the recent releases as well as the Roots Music Reports Charts and came away with four albums to put into my music rotation. All four are musicians whose music I have listened to and enjoyed previously. read more

A Six Pack Playlist of New Blues – (Dec 3-9 2017)

Tommy Castro’s Stompin’ Ground Kicks off a  Playlist of New Blues

So last week after I made the John Gorka playlist I visited the Roots Music Report’’s Blues Chart. I scanned down the list. There were new releases from a few artists I know and like and several new artists. I decided to make a playlist to see which albums I would like to explore in more detail, I.e. listen to the full album. Here are the albums and artists, the playlist and my thoughts on the albums.

Stompin Ground - Tommy CastroStompin’ Ground – Tommy Castro

Tommy Castro has been a favorite of mine since the late 90s. Many of his albums are in my music library. There are times when I wish that his songs had more guitar, but the music is always infectious. read more

It’s Monday – Here’s a Blues Playlist to Ease Us into the Week!!

Tab BenoitSo welcome to Monday it’s that day of the week that we all dread, the day that it’s back to work and the whole wonderful week lays before us! It’s enough to give anyone the blues. So here’s a lunch or anytime blues hour that I put together this morning!! It features some of my favorites!

Tab Benoit kicks it off with that “Night Train” rollin’ 500 miles….. “Albert’s Shuffle” comes next with some great guitar by Mike Bloomfield and equally great organ from Al Kooper. They did some great stuff together, didn’t they…Gary Moore’s “Still Go the Blues” don’t we all!! From an album I haven’t listened to in a while Big Pete’s Choice Cuts comes “Hey Lawdy Mama”, Joe Bonamassa slows it down a little with a live version of “Sloe Gin”, while Nick Moss and The Flip Tops feature Lurrie Bell and he’s ready for you Bernard Allisonand ready for love….with “I’m Ready” read more

The Safari Finally Discovers – Britain’s Aynsley Lister – Home!

So in 1984 across the pond in Leicester, England an eight year old Aynsley Lister was given his first guitar. By the time 1989 rolled around the 13 year-old played his first gig and had a band. When he turned 18 he opened for Buddy Guy and had self-released two albums of his own material. He also caught the eye of Thomas Ruf and he was signed to Ruf Records a union that would produce seven albums and two DVDs over the next ten years!

Now the rising young guitar slinger was playing along side of Walter Trout, John Mayall and Robert Cray, not bad eh? His music appealed not just to blues fans but he also started to gain rock music fans that allowed him to play festivals with bands like Fun Lovin’ Criminals. So while firmly rooted in the blues, his branches reached the rock crowd. This led to his being the only British artist to be named in  in Classic Rock magazine’s “Top 10 Contemporary Blues Artists”, alongside John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Joe Bonamassa!! read more

Blues on the Rock Side from Sean Chambers – The Rock House Sessions

When I started my blog Me, Myself, Music and Mysteries, one of the first young blues artist whose music I explored was Sean Chambers. At that time he had just released his album Ten Til Midnight, initially, I couldn’t find the album on any of the music sites I use, so I listened instead to his 2007 release Humble Spirits and I was very, very impressed by his musicianship. What I didn’t know at the time was that from 1998-2003 Sean had toured with Hubert Sumlin, played lead guitar and was his band director! Sean was also named “One of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century” by  Britain’s Guitarist magazine. So by the time he released Ten Til Midnight Sean had a pretty good resume going! read more

2014 Blues – Tommy Castro and the Painkillers – The Devil You Know!!

The Devil You KnowSometimes my first impressions suck! See I once said after the première of the TV show Cheers that it was pretty good except I wasn’t sure about the theme song! And I said that I didn’t know how long they could keep up the premise of the TV show Perfect Strangers! How about for eight seasons!! And after the first listen to The Devil You Know, the new release from Tommy Castro and the Painkillers I wasn’t sure if it was that good! Hey, it’s very, very and maybe a few more verys, good! I think that on the first listen, first I didn’t listen that closely, but second it sounded a little different from the Tommy Castro that I’ve been listening to since the mid to late 90s, At his website Tommy explains it to me…… read more

The Safari finds Blues from Tinsley Ellis’ Midnight Blue on a Snowy Day is a good thing!!

So today was a blues day. A blues day inside and a white snowy day outside, as we here in the northeast were hit with another snowstorm! s]Since it was a blues day, the latest release from Tinsley Ellis Midnight Blue was the album of the day. After listening and thinking about Tinsley I was trying to fix when I first discovered his music. I have his 1992 release Trouble Time and his 1994 release Storm Warning both on cassette, and I may have bought them at Tunes in the late 1990s. Not that it really matters, the important thing is that I’ve known and loved this great guitarist for a while now, and I’d put Midnight Blue right up there with his best work, which almost says is his 2004 release The Hard Way  Anyway for those of you who don’t know Tinsley…. read more
