The "Americans United" Party Part 1!! The Time has Come to Unite and Move Forward!

Wall Street ProtestBack in the 1970s Richard Nixon called for the “Silent Majority” to step forward to stop the loud minority of Vietnam war protestors, those who he saw as trying to destroy America, while we saw ourselves as the ones trying to save America! Today I belive that the roles are reversed the “loud minority” are the ones that are hijacking our country and dividing it along racial and monetary lines! Fighting against this loud minority is a “Silent majority This “silent majority” elected a black man President, one who gave us all hope for a better and brighter future and yet that “loud minority” who lost the election succeeded in creating a political climate based on racial hatred and wedge issues like gay marriage, abortion and gun rights and unfounded fears of totalitarian takeovers, that the President’s administration  is left in political shambles. From the start of his first term the Republican “minority” has done everything they can do to set him up fail, but yet we the silent majority still elected him for a second term. Why? Because he represents a majority of the people of our nation! It’s a majority that wants to see people be able to marry the person they love, who want to see sensible gun control and action to save the planet from global warming, and to take actions like the following from Richard Reich’s post Robert Reich: Why Dems Lost The Election And What They Can Do About It read more

This Date in History – November 3, 1816 – Confederate General Jubal A. Early was born! July 1864 Early’s Troops head toward Washington!

JubalEarlySo through the years, even though I was not a fan of the Confederacy, because of the slavery issue, I have been more fascinated and interested in its generals than those of the north. Most of the biographies that I have read about Civil War generals have been about Confederate Generals, like Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart and the General whose birthday it is today Jubal Anderson Early who would have been 198 years young today, if not for climate change after Noah’s Flood (Pat Robertson: People Don’t Live To Be 950 Anymore Because Of Climate Change. Right! Anyway, Early served first under Stonewall Jackson and then Robert E Lee. He rose  from regimental command to lieutenant-general and the command of an infantry corps in the Army of Northern Virginia From me the most interesting event in the War that Early took part  in was in the summer and fall of 1864 in the Valley Campaigns….. from Wikipedia: read more

Exploring the Joys of Grandparenthood! Halloween’s made fun again!

So after many years of being an irrelevant holiday, my grandchildren made Halloween relevant today!! Oliver and his mom Meaghan visited my wife and I at my wife’s workplace today (Riverside schools) and then Zoe and her parents had dinner with us tonight!!

I love music of all kinds,
but there’s no greater music
than the sound of my grandchildren laughing;
my kids, too.

World Series Memories – the tales of three game ending home runs 1960, 1964, 1993!!

Maz MontageSo as I sat thinking about tonight’s World Series Game 7, my thoughts went to famous World Series home runs. The first thing that popped into my mind was one of my favorite trivia questions of all-time! Who was playing left field for the New York Yankees when Bill Mazeroski hit his game winning home run to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 10-9 win over the New York Yankees. The win gave the Pirates a 4-3 Series victory and the 1960 World Championship! The answer is Yogi Berra!!  I had just turned 9 years old and even then I hated the Yankees and very much enjoyed that afternoon! It’s the first World Series that I can remember, though  really don’t remember many of the other games in the series! read more

Oct. 29, 1923 Turkey becomes a Republic, plus a connection to the Cuban Missile Crisis!

Flag_of_TurkeyOn October 29 in 1923, Turkey officially became a republic, after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. From Wikipedia:

Following WWI, the huge conglomeration of territories and peoples that formerly comprised the Ottoman Empire was divided into several new states.[20] The Turkish War of Independence (1919–1922), initiated by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his colleagues in Anatolia, resulted in the establishment of the modern Republic of Turkey in 1923……

….By 18 September 1922, the occupying armies were expelled, and the Ankara-based Turkish regime, which declared itself the legitimate government of the country in April 1920, started to formalize the legal transition from the old Ottoman into the new Republican political system. On 1 November, the newly founded parliament formally abolished the Sultanate, thus ending 623 years of monarchical Ottoman rule. The Treaty of Lausanne of 24 July 1923 led to the international recognition of the sovereignty of the newly formed “Republic of Turkey” as the continuing state of the Ottoman Empire, and the republic was officially proclaimed on 29 October 1923 in Ankara, the country’s new capital.[77] The Lausanne treaty stipulated a population exchange between Greece and Turkey, whereby 1.1 million Greeks left Turkey for Greece in exchange for 380,000 Muslims transferred from Greece to Turkey.[78] read more

This Date in History – Oct 22, 1777 The Battle of Red Bank fought, not far down the Delaware River from us!!

On October 22, 1777  a Revolutionary War battle was fought just a little  way down the Delaware River from our home, in Red Bank – now National Park., NJ. At that time Fort Mercer, named for Brigadier General Hugh Mercer who was killed earlier in the year at the Battle of Princeton, was located at Red Bank. Fort Mercer  and its sister fort, Fort Mifflin were two forts built by Polish engineer Thadddeus Kosciuszko under the command of General George Washington. Fort Mifflin was located on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware. Here’s a map showing the location of the fort and our home…… read more

This Date in History – October 20, 1941 – The Tragic Kragujevac Massacre (Serbia)

German_Soldierss_arresting_in_1941_people_in_Kragujevac

Germans escorting people from Kragujevac and its surrounding area to be executed.

Saturday October 18th was International Necktie Day, celebrated in Croatia, the home of  the necktie and several cities around the world. As a result, I wrote a little about Croatia. Today is the 73 rd anniversary of a horrific event that occurred in  Serbia, which lies east of Croatia, and like Croatia was part of the old Yugoslavia. The event that is known as the  Kragujevac massacre was according to Wikipedia….

….the murder of Serbs, Jewish and Roma men and boys in Kragujevac, Serbia, by German Wehrmacht soldiers on 20 and 21 October 1941. All males from the town between the ages of sixteen and sixty were assembled by German troops and members of the collaborationist Serbian Volunteer Command (SDK)[1] and Serbian State Guard (SDS),[2] including high school students, and the victims were selected from amongst them. On 29 October 1941, Felix Benzler, the plenipotentiary of the German foreign ministry in Serbia, reported that 2,300 people were executed.[3] Later investigations by the post-war Yugoslavian government came up with between 5,000 and 7,000 people executed, although these figures were never proven reliable.[4] Subsequently, Serbian and German scholars have agreed on the figure of 2,778.[1] read more

Exploring The Right Wing and the Ebola Virus – Balderdash!

So I paid a visit to the website Right Wing Watch, where People For the American Way monitors the activities of the right-wing ManWearingTinFoilHatmovement, to see what the Right has to say about the Ebola virus!! Here’s a recap of what I found! John Hagee, televangelist and Christians United For Israel founder says that the Ebola crisis is God’s judgment on America for President Obama’s failure to adequately support Israel!

John Hagee Says Ebola Is God’s Judgment On America Because Obama Is Trying To Divide Israel:

“I want every American to hear this very clearly,” Hagee said, citing Joel 3 to warn that God will judge any nation that seeks to divide up Israel and declaring that “our president is dead set on dividing Jerusalem. God is watching and he will bring America into judgment.” “There are grounds to say that judgment has already begun,” Hagee continued, “because he, the president, has been fighting to divide Jerusalem for years now.” read more
