A 10K Run with New Music from Prog Folkies Mostly Autumn

White Rainbow- Mostly Autumn
The Run – The First 10K In a Long Time

Sunday my goal was to make up for not running twice last week because it was windy. I ran last Tuesday and then skipped Thursday and Friday because of the wind. So to make up for that I decided to run at least s six miles yesterday. And overall I was able to meet my goal.

The first three miles went really well. I kept up a steady pace of 9:59 minutes per mile for each of the first three miles. After that my pace was slower for each mile. It dropped to 10:29 for mile 4, 10:33 for mile 5 and 10:48 for the 6th mile. read more

Karnataka – Requiem for a Dream a Best of 2023!

Karnataka - Requiem for a DReam

So it doesn’t look like I’ve posted anything new on this site since 2020! Wow! And while I’ve listened to lots of Jazz and New Age since then, I have listened to very little Progressive Rock.In order to rectify that situation I went to Progstreaming extended to review albums that were released in 2023. The album that caught my attention was Requiem for for a Dream from Karnataka. Since ekreader’s real name is Edward Karn, you can see why the name stood out! Anyway,  let’s see what I found out about Karnataka! read more

Pyramaze – Epitath – Progressive Metal from Denmark

Ok

One of the aspects of Progressive Rock (Prog) I love  is that is an International music genre. This morning I was looking for some new prog to listen to. So I visited the site New Prog Releases and checked for releases from yesterday, Nov 13th. One of the first albums I spotted was Epitaph by Pyramaze. And the band hails from Denmark – perfect!. I am listening to the album now and enjoying it!  Listening has made me realize I have missed prog!

Great Progressive Metal from Poland – Art of Illusion

Cold War of Solipsism – Art of Illusion – Progressive Metal – Poland

One of the Progressive Rock (Prog Rock) albums that I have been enjoying over the last several weeks is Cold War of Solipsism from Art of Illusion.

One of the aspects I love about Prog Rock is that it is a world-wide genre. Prog Bands come from it seems almost every country in the world. And an example is Art of Illusion who hail from Poland that hotbed of Prog Poland ( no sarcasm intended).

While the band formed in 2002, they didn’t release their first album Round Square of The Triangle until 2014. Cold War of Solipsism released this year is only their sophomore effort. Now I often say I like to read books that teach me something. Well, how about an album that teaches me something! As I started to write this post, I thought – What the hell is Solipsism? So I was off to Wikipedia where I discovered……. read more

A Walk/Jog with a New Fitness Tracker and A New Album from Day Six!

So last week I was searching on Amazon for fitness trackers. The main problem was that I wanted a tracker that had a heart rate monitor and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I discovered the Letscom Smart Bracelet. It does just about everything my Fitbit Charge HR does (except count floors) and does it for around $ 27.00.

Needless to say I purchased it and have been using it over the last several days. It seems to be working fairly well the step counts are consistent with the counts that I got from using the Fitbit. Heart Rate monitoring seems a little off. While I was exercising yesterday, when I gazed at the HR monitor while I was still breathing rather heavily it said my heart rate was 70. I think not! But it has done what I need it to do and that is get me off my butt and moving. read more

Edward Discovers the Retro Rock of Sweden’s Siena Root!

Siena Roots Does Music the 60s and 70s Way and I Like It!

Yesterday,I was doing some organizing in my room, so I turned on Spotify. When I did a song titled “The Piper Won’t let You Stay” was playing. The longer I listened the more I thought,”Hey, I like this”  And when I heard the organ solos, I knew I liked it! The song was from an album released in 2017 titled A Dream of Lasting Peace from a band named Siena Root.

I quickly googled the band name and this is what I discovered:

Siena Root is a Swedish rock band with its roots in late ’60s and ’70s rock music. The group was founded in Stockholm in the late ’90s. Their sound is based on heavy organ, howling guitars, bass riffing and big drums. It is also often enriched with bluesy soulful vocals, various guest musicians and psychedelic vibes read more

Cydemind – Erosion – Canadian Instrumental Progressive Metal

Today’s Soundtrack: Cydemind – Erosion – Canadian Progressive Metal

The soundtrack of my four-mile run this morning was Erosion the latest release from the Canadian Progressive Metal band Cydemind. (You can read about the run here). The album has been in my music rotation for the few weeks and I have found it very interesting. There’s a certain sameness to the tracks, but that happens with instrumental albums. At least in my opinion. Anyway, here is some background information on Cydemind.

About Cydemind

The music of Cydemind draws on a lot of influences and their music combines Progressive Rock. jazz and Progressive Metal very nicely. Dream Theater, Haken, Neal Morse, Avishi Cohen and Tigran Hamasyan are among those bands that have influenced Cydemind. Erosion is the first full-length album. Previously, the band has released an EP – Through the Mist and Ages in 2014 and the single “What Remains”  in 2015. Cydemind is composed of five members. Here’s the line-up for Erosion…. read more

Blind Ego’s Liquid Powers a Good Walk

The Walk (not the run!)

I know that I was supposed to run yesterday. But first we had to do some shopping before the Eagles game. Then after the end of that upsetting loss to the Giants I was in no mood to run. However, I didn’t want to totally avoid exercise so I decided to walk instead.

Along with  just not being  not in the mood to run I also knew that it was late enough that it would be getting dark before I finished my run.  I hate  the switch back to standard time in the fall It would be so nice if it stayed light out until 5:30 to 6:00 at night! I’ll put up with it being dark in the morning! Anyway, I read a good article about the switch in The Washington Post yesterday and I whole heartedly agree: Turning back the clock 1 hour takes a serious toll on your mental health read more

The Prelude Implicit Kansas’ Latest Album Powers My First Run as a 65 year-old!

Another Attempt to Start Running Again with a Soundtrack from Kansas – The Prelude Implicit

So I had babysitting duties today with my granddaughter Zoe. Missy had to go to work earlier than usual so I had to be there by 7:30. The good thing about that was Missy got home a little after 3, which meant that I would be home by 3:30 or so and that meant there would be time to run today.

I haven’t run since I don’t know when, I just can’t seem to get motived to find the time. But Saturday I turned 65 and my wife asked if I needed new running shoes or was I not going to run anymore? Of course I am going to run again, I responded, probably a little unconvincingly.Anyway, this afternoon was a perfect time to start again, or at least make an attempt to start again. I have done that several times this year! But it does look like I will only have to babysit Zoe again on Wednesday this week. So I should be off on Friday to run again. read more
