Run Update 10/22/15 – 4.2 Miles with Neo-Prog!

The Run: 4.2 Mile Harper Loop

So I have done a pretty bad job of posting about my runs lately, I don’t think I have posted anything since last Monday’s run. That run was my first run while wearing the Fitbit and it is a good one!! Since then I’ve run three more times and while none of the runs were as fast as that Monday run they have all been pretty good!!

Last Thursday’s run was  a 4.2 mile run over a course that is the hilliest of any that I run. Here’s is a graph of the elevation changes on the course…. read more

Since Ever’s Prog Rock Powers a Four-Mile Run

Since Ever -Metal Rock Symphioic – Sweden

So after babysitting Oliver on Monday and then working yesterday at Target, I was a little tired yesterday and it was one of the two days I can run this week. After work I seriously thought about skipping the run, but on a quick shopping trip my wife asked if I was going to run. I said, “I’m thinking about it!” Hum, did she read my post or did she just assume that it was a day I could run?? Either way it kinda sealed the deal that I was going to run!!I decided that I would run 4 miles, but over a course without a hill! So once again I carved out a new four mile course over the familiar streets of Riverside and Delran. read more

Forest Field – Angels? And Another Four Mile Run

The Melodic Prog Rock of Forest Field Makes Another Four Mile Run Easier!

The Week

So this week has been a busy and stress filled week. Tuesday was a normal work day at Target, but on Wednesday things got a little upsetting. On Wednesday morning, when I arrived at my son Andrew’s house to babysit Oliver, Andrew was still there and wasn’t dressed for work. With my Spidey senses working overtime I asked :Is everything all right? Andrew’s response was no and that he wasn’t going to work. I questioned “Am I staying?” Yes! Soon Andrew and Meaghan were off to Urgent Care. Back in the early winter last year Andrew had severe pains in his lower chest and  upper abdomen but he took some pain medication, the pain went away, and the doctor really didn’t know what the cause was! More recently my third son Peter had the same pains, he ended up in the hospital with an initial diagnosis of pancreatititis. After an endoscopy he was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. read more

Pantommind’s Progressive Metal Fuels a Good Run

The Run

So this morning I woke up feeling kinda stiff, but I guess that is what you should expect as one approaches 64. I knew that a run was on “my schedule” but so was yoga. I decided that I was going to do my Monday morning routine of Kundalini mixed with some weights and band exercises. As I did those exercises, I started to feel better and better, so thought well just maybe I COULD run!! I also thought it would be pretty bad to extol the virtues of scheduling and then skip a run the second day it’s on my schedule!!  I decided yes I would run!! read more

Goblin Rebirth – The Safari Explores Italian Prog Again!

Goblin Rebirth – Rock Progressivo Italiano • Italy

It seems that lately I have been enjoying more and more bands that fall into the sub-genre of Rock Progressivo Italiano (See Armonite, Unreal City). The latest one is Goblin Rebirth. Their self-titled debut album has been in my rotation for a few days. It was even the soundtrack for a walk yesterday, back from the garage that was repairing my daughter’s car! It is a really good instrumental album.

Since the album was self-titled i thought Goblin Rebirth was a new band!! Wrong!! In reality they are what the name suggests, the rebirth of the band Goblin, whose roots go back to the mid-70s when  they collaboratied with Italian master of horror Dario Argento, scoring, a number of  Argento’s horror films such as ‘Profondo Rosso,’ ‘Zombi’ and ‘Suspiria.’ Goblin achieved immense success from this collaboration and achieved a legeneday status. The majority of their  music is heavy and moody with a Pink Floyd feel. The centerpiece of the band in the early years was the outstanding keyboard work of Claudio Simonett  Throughout the years in addition to the lastest reincarnation as Goblin Rebirth,,  the band has also been known as: Back to the Goblin, New Goblin, the Goblin Keys and Claudio Simonetti‘s Goblin! read more

Colin Edwin – Explorations of his Music on His Birthday – July 2nd!

Colin Edwin –  fretted and fretless bass guitar , double bass and guembri. –Born July 2, 1970

I have explored the music of Colin Edwin, not through the band that he has been a member of since 1993 Porcupine Tree; but through his collaborations with Jon Durant and more recently with Armonite. So today July 2nd is his birthday. So, I thought it may be a good day to more extensively explore the man and his music.  What I discovered is that Colin Edwin, like many talented musicians has many different outlets for his musicianship! In addition to his work with Porcupine Tree, Edwin has released solo albums. He has also collaborated many artists and been a member of several bands! Some basics from Wikipedia. read more

Armonite -The Sun is New Each Day

Armonite: Rock Progressivo Italiano • Italy  –  Rating ****

Over the last few days, the album The Sun is New Each Day from the band Armonite has been in my music rotation. It is an interesting instrumental progressive rock album. The band has a distinctive sound generated mostly by the sound of an electric violin. That violin is being played by one of the two founding members of Armonite, Jacopo Bigi. Bigi and composer Paolo Fosso. Together they founded Armonite in 1996, while they were still in school. The band released its first album Inuit in 1999. After which the band broke up. Jacopo pursued a career as a classical violinist and violin teacher, while Paolo started working in music administration. In 2015 they reunited and formed a new band, but used the old name. read more
