The Fifty Years Later Playlists (Then and Now Part I )

Fifty year plus years ago, I was discovering new artists, who would become lifelong companions. Today, many of them are still making music – and I’m still listening. This playlist The Fifty Years Later Playlist looks back at where they started.. and where they are now.

The seeds of this playlist were sown on Monday of this week (May 26th) when I used my 20% off Holiday discount at Goodwill to buy a JVC Dual Cassette deck for $8.00. As a result, over the next several days I searched for my old cassette tapes. read more

A Boz Scaggs Playlist Makes Those Two Plus Miles Fly By!

Boz Scaggs albums in my music library

Boz Scaggs albums in my music libraryOver the last year and a half I have run, to say the least sporadically! Over that time span most days my wife and I were babysitting our granddaughter Emma. Emma was born in 2023 and turned 2 in February. Most weekdays we were at my daughters from 7:15 – 4:30! So i couldn’t run either before or after. Well -, Im could have after but I was too tired and dinner to make and clean-up. Anyway -, my daughter had her second baby on May 8 and is now on maternity leave from her job. Consequently while we miss Emma dearly we are slowly reclaiming our former life!  For me that means maybe I can restart blogging and most importantly running. read more

Wes Montgomery- A Playlist from the First Wes Albums I Bought!

OKFour of the first Wes Montgomery albums I bought

Wes Montgomery – The First of My Jazz  Guitar Heroes

I go way back with Wes Montgomery. I discovered Wes Montgomery in the late 1960s around  the time he was crossing over to “mainstream” music: Actually, I don’t know if seeing him on the Hollywood Palace had anything to do with my discovering Wes. Most likely I already already about him because of “Windy”.

Either way I know I went out and bought the three albums Wes recorded on the A&M label. A Day in the Life (1967), Down Here on the Ground (1968)  and Road Song (1968). By the time A Day in the Life was released in read more

A Trip to The Princeton Record Exchange Creates Eclectic Playlist

So a couple of Fridays ago, my wife went to the New Jersey State Archives to do some genealogical research. Since I did not have any research to do, I decided to head to the Princeton Record Exchange to spend my two-year old gift certificate.

While I didn’t find many new albums I did find nine albums that are not in my music library, from artists I enjoy. Here are the albums group by genre.

A Six Pack Playlist of New Blues – (Dec 3-9 2017)

Tommy Castro’s Stompin’ Ground Kicks off a  Playlist of New Blues

So last week after I made the John Gorka playlist I visited the Roots Music Report’’s Blues Chart. I scanned down the list. There were new releases from a few artists I know and like and several new artists. I decided to make a playlist to see which albums I would like to explore in more detail, I.e. listen to the full album. Here are the albums and artists, the playlist and my thoughts on the albums.

An Eclectic Playlist for A Short Afternoon Trip

Eclectic Playlist is the Highlight of An Afternoon Car Trip

This afternoon I made a trip to Walmart and the Cinnaminson Library. I needed to charge my iPhone 7 so I couldn’t pug it into the radio and charge it at the same time, so I brought along my iPod. I always say that I really do need to listen to the older music that I love more. But That would require that I listen to less new stuff which may not be a good thing as I try to present new music here. Anyway today the trip resulted in a short six song 24 minute playlist. The playlist reveals the eclectic nature of my music library. read more

Yesterday’s Travels Down Memory Roads leads to a New Playlist

Yesterday’s Travels Down Memory Roads Lead to a New Type of Playlist…..

Yesterday I went to get a used auto part for my car. In doing so I had to travel on a road that I probably traveled at least once a week for 30 some odd years to get to many a job site.

As the miles rolled by pieces of my life did to . There went one of the many houses that I designed the septic system for. There’s the field where we were going to dig test pits one day.Until the County Health inspector threatened to take my backhoe operator back in the woods and beat the crap out if him over same question about rights to hunt on some property, There went another field where I did a large number of hand auger. borings and percolation tests and the list went on as the miles went by…… read more

Sometimes a Looking Back Playlist, Makes Moving Forward More Fun!

A Playlist Evolves From a Glimpse of Jimmie SpheerisIsle of View Album

As we evolve over time, sometimes we need to look back at old favorites, remembering what we liked in the past. Old favorites can always help us move forward in positive directions towards things we know we’ll like.

Tracks from Isle of View start a looking back playlist

With that in mind I caught a glimpse this morning of Jimmie Spheeris’ debut recording Isle of View amongst some old vinyl albums that are lying against one of my bookshelves. So I was soon off to Spotify to give the album a listen for the first time in a long time. i’m listening to track four “The Seeda of Spring” now. It has always been a favorite. Next up is “l am the Mercury” probably the best known track from the album and another favorite. read more
