Encantado – Showcases Jim Stubblefield’s Guitar Wizardry!

So last week while I was reading Richard Laymon’s No Sanctuary I was also listening to Encantado  the latest album from flamenco guitarist Jim Stubblefield. I stumbled on Stubbefield’s music on a trip a few years ago to the Princeton Record Exchange. On that trip I bought his 2007 release Inspiracion and really liked it. I haven’t listened to it enough lately though, I used to listen to a lot of flamenco guitar when I was writing reports at Lippincott, which I haven’t been doing at all lately!! Anyway I went to Spotify and was going to listen to Inspiracion but then I saw that Stubblefield had released Encantado so I gave that album a listen and I am a bigger fan of Jim after giving the album several listens!! This morning I listened to some of the album on my way back from a shopping trip to Target and then this afternoon it was the soundtrack for my hour-long run!! read more

The Morning Run……

So if there ever was a morning that had a good excuse for not running, today was it! We babysat Oliver last night and didn’t get home until 1:30 this morning!! While I knew it would be hard to get up at 7 to run this morning, I thought well maybe 7:30 would work. When the alarm went off this morning I thought “Do I really want to do this?” The answer was less than a resounding yes!  But at least it was a yes! The more  I thought about it I thought well I will be running tomorrow – that will be ok!  No – I said today was to be your long day – it doesn’t matter how fast you go, you just have to make it happen – so just do it!! My pre-run routine was the same as Friday, except for the head smack because today was not a Kundalini/Weights day, so doing the Meditation Preparation Routine was fine!! read more

(routine 3 from Richard Hittleman) I made a stop at the Zone Music Reporter‘s Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart The album that caught my eye was the number 31 album Spiritual Haven by Russell Suereth. It sounded like an album that would make a good soundtrack for my yoga set, so  I gave it a quick listen,I liked what I heard, but for some reason I didn’t use it, I come back and listen to it later in the morning though, and I think that I will be in my music rotation for a while. One of the New Age albums that has been in my music rotation for the last week or so is Midwinter from Jon Richards. The album has been the soundtrack for a run As while as being played while I was reading and doing my morning yoga routine and it has been enjoyed in all those. Traveler – Lawson Rollins

Lawson Rollins – Traveler – Another Awesome Album!

I discovered the fantastic guitar of Lawson Rollins a few years ago. My first encounter with his music was through his work as part of the duo Young & Rollins,  then in 2013 I met the solo artist, when I listened to his 2013 release Full Circle.  In both settings,Rollins is amazing! Just ask Guitar Player Magazine who says this about his playing: “ungodly classical chops…dazzling speed, uncanny accuracy and beautifully delicate touch.”  That artistry is on display again on Rollins’s latest release Traveler. read more

Over the last week or so the latest release Timothy Wenzel Summon the Wind has been in my music listening rotation. I spotted the album on the Zone Music Reported Chart for January where it was at number 6 on the chart. I had previously listened to Wenzel’s 2012 release A Coalescence of Dreams and his 2013 release River Serene and enjoyed both of the albums.According to Wenzel’s website, Wenzel   “writes and plays highly engaging electro-acoustic Contemporary Instrumental/New Age/Celtic music.” From his biography…… read more

John Luttrell – The Dream Exchange

The Dream Exchange the latest release from composer, singer-songwriter, producer, and performer John Luttrell sat at No. 1 on the Zone Music Reporter’s Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart back in June of this year and that may be when I discovered the album. Anyway the album has been in my music rotation for a good part of the last half of 2014! The reason for that is easy to explain – it’s a great album. So last week  I instituted a new item into my daily routine, The Music and Reading Hour. The idea is to set aside an hour a day to listen to music from musicians that I don’t know and read the books that I am currently reading. The first Music and Reading Hour featured five jazz artists, while the second featured four New Age artists. One of those artists was Johannes Linstead, I listened to a few tracks from Linstead’s latest release Midnight Rhumba.

Rick Sparks – Endless                                                         Quiet Piano to Replenish Your Spirit

Many times I am drawn to an album by the album cover’s art work. That was the case with the album at #7 on the Zone Music Reporters December Chart, Endless from Rick Sparks. The second thing about the album that caught my eye was that the album is a self-release. It seems I’m always drawn to these albums!. Hurrah for the little guy! But it was the quiet,and relaxing beauty of Spark’s piano playing that ultimately made this one of the most enjoyable New Age albums, I have listened to in a while! The tag line on the album reads “Quiet Piano to Replenish Your Soul”and that’s just what it did for me! read more
