The High Cost of Low Living a Great Soundtrack for a Slow Run!

The Run – (if you can call it that)

Yesterday afternoon I looked at my Fitbit totals for the day and saw that I only had recorded 2,200 steps. Now I had proof that I had sat around all day!. So my thoughts maybe I’ll run became I have to run today if  want to get to 10,000 steps!

As I prepared to run, I decided that the plan was to run. a minimum of two miles or a maximum of 30 minutes. My main focus during the run was not how fast I was running but keeping my heart rate below 150 beats per minute (bpm). So as I was running every time I saw the rate going over 150, I slowed up  until my rate went down and back under 150. read more

Day 5- New Music – Experimental Rock Band – Road to Jerusalem

Road to Jerusalem – Road to Jerusalem

Yesterday was  Day 5 of my New Musician Challenge and, while I did listen to some new music, I didn’t get a chance to write anything. The Road to Jerusalem was a little more hard rock than the bands that are usually in my music rotation. However, based on what I’ve heard from The Road to Jerusalem (RTJ) I may be checking out a few of those bands that are listed as Related Artists on their overview page!!

The Band

Anyway, RTJ is an experimental rock band. The band is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, but the musicians in the band are from several countries. Vocalist Josh Tyree is from the US. Guitarist Michael Skovbakke is from Denmark as is drummer Per Moller Jensen. Bassist Andreas Holma hails from Sweden. read more

New Challenge – The 30-day New Musician Challenge

The other day, one of the new challenges that I thought I could initiate was the following. The 30-day New Musician Challenge. Each day during the challenge I will search Spotify for a musician whose music I have never heard. Ok so that really doesn’t sound very much different from what I normally do does it? Well, maybe it doesn’t but what the challenge does it gives me some structure something that I can do every day on a regular basis, well, at least for 30 days!

Anyway, the first day which was Sunday I actually ended up listening to two artists I had never heard of before. So here they are and I’ll count them as Day One and Day Two. Hmm, who will I listen to on Day Three?? read more

The Cage by Bob Holroyd – Let’s Everything In!

The Cage – Bob Holroyd -U.K. Multinstrumentalist

Sometimes an album just strikes the right chord with you! Such is the case with The Cage the new release from U.K. master sound manipulator and musical space-shaper Bob Holroyd. The first time I listened to the album, I knew it was for me. Subsequently it has been the soundtrack for my morning yoga and meditations. And every time  I listen to it I hear something new!

Holroyd Explains The Cage

Holroyd states the premise behind The Cage is: “Freedom is a larger cage, a longer page, a wider stage. True freedom comes not from escape, but allowing everything in” read more

From New Age Piano to Blues – How Many Genres Does Your Music Listening Cross?

Thoughts About My Music Listening

Ok so this morning as I was writing my morning post I listened to Ann Sweeten’s 2016 release Where Butterflies Dance. The album is an album full of beautiful piano music. That album must have finished, before I was done writing because when I went back to Spotify, after finishing writing my post, a different piano artist’s music was playing!

I worked around my room I continuing  to listen to piano music. Then I listened to Peter Kater‘s latest release Dancing on Water. Through the years I have enjoyed Peter’s music. Particularly his collaborative efforts with R Carlos Nakai. read more

New Blues Albums from Mayall, Karp, Ellis and Morvan

New Blues Albums – March 3, 2018

I haven’t posted here in a long, long while, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been seeking out and listening to new music. I just have been writing at ekkarn.com instead. However, it may be time to start this blog up again.

With that being said let’s jump right back into some blues. A few days ago I was reviewing the recent releases as well as the Roots Music Reports Charts and came away with four albums to put into my music rotation. All four are musicians whose music I have listened to and enjoyed previously. read more

A Trip to The Princeton Record Exchange Creates Eclectic Playlist

So a couple of Fridays ago, my wife went to the New Jersey State Archives to do some genealogical research. Since I did not have any research to do, I decided to head to the Princeton Record Exchange to spend my two-year old gift certificate.

While I didn’t find many new albums I did find nine albums that are not in my music library, from artists I enjoy. Here are the albums group by genre.

A Walk/Jog with a New Fitness Tracker and A New Album from Day Six!

So last week I was searching on Amazon for fitness trackers. The main problem was that I wanted a tracker that had a heart rate monitor and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I discovered the Letscom Smart Bracelet. It does just about everything my Fitbit Charge HR does (except count floors) and does it for around $ 27.00.

Needless to say I purchased it and have been using it over the last several days. It seems to be working fairly well the step counts are consistent with the counts that I got from using the Fitbit. Heart Rate monitoring seems a little off. While I was exercising yesterday, when I gazed at the HR monitor while I was still breathing rather heavily it said my heart rate was 70. I think not! But it has done what I need it to do and that is get me off my butt and moving. read more

Edward Discovers the Retro Rock of Sweden’s Siena Root!

Siena Roots Does Music the 60s and 70s Way and I Like It!

Yesterday,I was doing some organizing in my room, so I turned on Spotify. When I did a song titled “The Piper Won’t let You Stay” was playing. The longer I listened the more I thought,”Hey, I like this”  And when I heard the organ solos, I knew I liked it! The song was from an album released in 2017 titled A Dream of Lasting Peace from a band named Siena Root.

I quickly googled the band name and this is what I discovered:

Siena Root is a Swedish rock band with its roots in late ’60s and ’70s rock music. The group was founded in Stockholm in the late ’90s. Their sound is based on heavy organ, howling guitars, bass riffing and big drums. It is also often enriched with bluesy soulful vocals, various guest musicians and psychedelic vibes read more

A Recap of what has been happening so far in 2018

Ok so I haven’t yet written a post in the new year, but that doesn’t mean that things haven’t been happening. The big news is that in  three days our third grandchild will be born. The first son of our third son, Peter and his wife Missy will be delivered via c-section on Wednesday morning.

Now that should make babysitting very interesting! I actually won’t have to worry about babysitting for a newborn and a three-year plus old for a while.

Anti-Aging Activities Need to Be Initiated

Now while this year does not find me as out of shape as I was last year I am in as good as shape as I want to be in. So January will find me again trying to lose some weight and get back in shape. read more
