The Run

Oh, what a difference a cloudy sky and a temperature that is a few degrees lower make on a morning run! I have been making it a habit to check the running conditions each night before a run. Last night the rating for this morning was an 8 out of 10 until after 10am. And the rating was correct! The beat thing was there was no bright sun beating down on me!

I ran the first mile in just a shade under 11 minutes. (10:59). The second mile was slower because much of the mile was uphill. My mile time was 11:20 and the average pace dropped to 11:09. I ran the third mile and fourth mile in around 10:56 with a little sprint at the end.As a result, I was able to finish with an overall pace of 11:00 min/mile and I was a happy runner! This Year’s Fastest Run! Yeah Me! Music by Damon Fowler!

Over the last six months I have made a conscious effort to manage my ADHD. Although just now as I started to write this post, I started to check the books I read in May to add to a page I made for books I’ve read in 2021! The good thing though is I stopped myself!!

So why is managing my ADHD relevant today? Well, last night in my mind I planned to run this morning. However, in typical fashion I forgot I also needed to take wash to the laundromat.

So should I run first then do the laundry? Do the laundry and put off running until later today or tomorrow? Or do the laundry and run while it’s drying? read more

Rising Up Lifts Me Up on a Good Run

Yesterday, after I finished reading The Residence, I decided to go for a run rather than do my typical workout. I was doing pretty well running last year up until November. After November 8th I didn’t run again until March3rd. After that run it was another month until I ran again on April 15th.

In my defense, I have worked out regularly almost every day over those four months. And thanks to some changes in my diet, that include focusing on reducing the amount of sugar in my diet. My weight is actually close to my optimal running weight! That actually makes starting to run again a little easier. read more

As I sit here and hope that one of these times I try my laptop will, like it do last night, turn on, I am listening to the latest release from saxophonist Vincent Herring Preaching to the Choir. I have several of Herring‘s albums in my music library and have enjoyed his music.

Preaching to the Choir is the 56 year-old Herring‘s 23rd release either as a leader or co-leader. Herring‘s career started way back In 19&6. Herring has also appeared on countless albums as a sideman. He has appeared on multiple albums for the likes of: Cedar Walton, Nat Adderly and Freddie Hubbard. read more

Thought about this Blog, My Latest Run and Ally Venable

When I started my first blog I titled it Me, Myself, Music and Mysteries. The idea was that there would by posts about Me, the music I listened to and the books I read most often which were mysteries.

The “Me” part would include; posts about my family both my present family and also my ancestors. As well as posts about my attempts to turn back the hands of my biological clock. I attempt to turn those clocks back by eating right, and exercising regular. My exercising includes yoga, running and indoor cardio workouts. read more

Wes Montgomery and Robben Ford Provide a Day of Blues and Jazz

Wes Montgomery and Robben Ford albums today’s random picks So yesterday’s random numbers were 3 and 5. Those numbers led me to one blues album from Robben Ford and the Blue Line and a jazz album from Wes Montgomery. The Robben Ford album is his 1995 release Handful of Blues. The Wes Montgomery album was Movin’ Wes, released in 1964 on the Verve label.

Robben Ford is one of the artists I like when I hear his music but I tend not to search out his music. Part of the reason is I really didnt care for a few of his more recent albums. Therefore, I probably haven’t given his current albums a good listen. Bottom line , I just havent been listening to his music much anymore. read more

A New Idea leads to Stevie Ray and Bill Morrissey

You know what they say- out of site out of mind. Over the last week or so I do believe they may be right.

Recently, I decided to take the CDs I like out of storage and put them on shelves in my room. Yes I know I can play them all on my iPod or I can stream them on Spotify, but there is something about seeing and holding an album or CD that feels good and right.

I have a five disc CD player and over the last month I have been randomly picking five CDs putting them in the changer and listening to them. And I’ve enjoyed a lot of music I haven’t heard for a while. read more

So I sat down this afternoon to read some more in The Silent Wife , the latest release from Karin Slaughter. Prior to starting to read, I reviewed my Release Radar on Spotify. Release Radar is a collection of music I may like, containing both recently released albums and singles from soon to be released albums. I was looking for a new jazz or New Age album. What I found, and picked to listen to, was the latest release from Mathew Halsall Salute to the Sun.

Tab Benoit (born November 17, 1967, Baton Rouge, Louisiana)[1] is an American blues guitarist, musician and singer.[2] He plays a style that is a combination of blues styles, primarily Delta blues. He plays a Fender Telecaster Thinline electric guitar and writes his own musical compositions. Benoit graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School in Houma, Louisiana in May, 1985.
