2014 Blues coming July 1st from Blues Guitarist Dave Fields – All In!! (video)

I first discovered Dave Fields' music back in 2010, in the first few months of this blog's existence. The first album of Dave's that I listened to was his début album Times a-Wastin' and well it and it only took the first song "Let's Get Shakin'" for me to know, that I was going to like this guy, and it wasn't long after that I listened to his 2008 release All Wound Up and, well, I loved Dave's guitar playing, vocals and songwriting from the first listens and I've been a fan ever since

This Day in Music – May 19, 1953 – Blues Guitarist Jimmy Thackery was born!!

Jimmy ThackeryI first discovered Jimmy Thackery &the Drivers in the late 90s, in the period where my sons and I visited Tunes Used CD store in Marlton every week. My introduction to his music was  his 1994 release Trouble Man that I picked up on cassette. I’m listening to it now remembering what a great album it is! Check it out!! I loved the album since then several of his albums are in my music library. I must say that over the last several years I’ve lost track of his career, hum, maybe his birthday is a good day to start reconnecting….. from AllMusic…. read more

Life’s Soundtrack – Another Good Run this time with Lisa Mann’s New Album – Move On (video)

So back on September 4th of last year I ran the same course that I ran tonight. Back then I was coming off a couple of months of inactivity (June and July too hot!) and starting to get back into shape. On that night I there was improvement, as I ran the third and fourth miles faster than I had run them. Now tonight while I’ve run a few times in April – January, February and March were too snowy and cold for me to run much – my old body likes the fair weather! Anyway tonight is like the fourth run in April and my first four-miler and while I thought I struggled my overall time was faster than it was back in September and both my third and fourth miles were faster!! So how come?? I think that the answer may lie in the amount of yoga that I have done over the winter this year!! Overall, my weight is lower than it was and I feel better!! read more

Blues from Britain’s Matt Schofield!!

Far As I Can SeeYesterday I listened to Matt Schofield’s new album Far As I Can See and if you’re like me and enjoy blues with some great guitar and some Hammond B3 added to the mix, then you’ll like the album – now I will write more about the album later, but now I have to go watch and episode of The BlackList so that I can catch up to where the season is by next Monday night, so here is the post I wrote back when I first discovered Matt’s music…….

So the other night I was reading the album reviews in Blues Revue and came across the following “Who needs a big band when an organ combo sounds just as good?”  Well I didn’t have to read any further, I just went to Napster and found the album Matt Schofield’s Live from the Archive. Yesterday I listened to the album and loved it and today I went to Emusic and downloaded and listened to Schofield’s 2009 release Heads, Tails & Aces and who knows tomorrow I may go back for more!! read more

Yesterday in Music -April 22, 1936 – Glen Campbell was born!!

Glen CampbellYesterday I saw that Glen Campbell, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s three years ago, was in his best interest, moved to a Care Facility. According to the family, it Campbell’s care became too much for them. You can read about it here. Today Glen celebrates his 78th birthday! Glen was born on April 22, 1936 in Billstown, a tiny community near Delight in Pike County, Arkansas. He was the seventh son of 12 children. Way back when, in the late 60s, along with all the rock, and folk music that I was listening to, Glen Campbell’s albums found their way into my music library! He was a great singer, an equally talented guitarist and a seemingly all around good guy. Four wives and the drug and alcohol abuse tell a different story for many years of his life, but bout 25 years or so ago he was able to put that all behind him for the most part. Here is a good article about Glen from The Telegraph. For those of you who don’t know Glen, or those who need some reminding – from Wikipedia….. read more

New Music from Two Master Musicians – Leon Russell and Ian Anderson!!

Leon Russell and Ian Anderson major stars in the 1970s, both released new albums this month! Boy it doesn’t seem possible that it’s been 44 years since I bought Benefit my first Jethro Tull album. Equally implausible, is  that it’s been 43 years, since Leon Russell and the Shelter People spun for its first time on my turntable.

Leon Russell’s Life Journey

Russell’s new album is titled Life Journey about which Life JourneyRussell says “This is a record of my musical journey through this life,” He writes in the liner notes: “It reflects pieces of things that I have done and things I never did.” read more

New Music from an Old Favorite – David Wilcox – blaze!

David Wilcox IIOver the last few weeks, I’ve made reference to listening to David Wilcox’s new album blaze,  today I  listened to it again and I think it’s time i write something about the album! For me David Wilcox has the whole package, he is an intelligent and thought songwriter, a great singer and a terrific guitar player. What more could one ask for? I’ve been listening to David since the late 80s when I heard him on the radio singing and discussing the titled track of his first album “The Nightshift Watchman” Which is a song about those people, who sit in underground bunkers watching the skies for a missile attack knowing full well that if they do their job, their job and the world as we know it may be over!! You can read the lyrics here. Many of David’s eighteen releases can  be found in my music library and I feel that blaze is  one of his best albums. read more

“Into the Night” with Chris Knight’s “It Ain’t Easy Being Me” Covered by Blake Shelton Does this song fit Clete Purcel or What?

Clete PurcelSo the other night, when I was reading Light of the World by James Lee Burke (which by the way I finished yesterday so I will be writing about it shortly) I started thinking about the character of Clete Purcel and specifically a song that would fit the character. Now, if you read Burke’s Dave Robicheaux series you know that Clete is Dave’s best friend and right hand man. They were partner in the Homicide Division of the New Orleans Police Department until their self-destructive tendencies got them kicked off the force. Through twenty books by Burke – Clete and Dave have fought the bad guys that live on the underside of New Orleans,  New Iberia and in the case of “Light of the World” Montana. Throughout those books, if there is a wrong decision to be made  Clete made it, if Clete knew he was going too far with a suspect or a bad guy that he was beating the crap out of and he knew he should stop Clete kept gong!  So for me the song that best fits Cletus Is- “It Ain’t Easy Being Me” by Chris Knight!! read more
