Coming in Hot on a Fast Tuesday Run

Coming in Hot – Coco Montoya Keeps My Tempo Up on This Morning’s Run

Ok I’ve done enough mulling over my thoughts about The Who (will read)  and what (should I write about) concerning  my blog. Enough monkey brain! Just calm down and go back to writing like you have for the last nine years!  That writing got you through some hard times with your job and helped bring you to a good point in your life today!! So whether or not anyone is coming along for the ride, I will try to get back to blogging as often as I can about the books I read, the music I listen to and my attempts to turn back my biological clock!! Speaking of which today was was a running day!! read more

The Run

Yesterday’s was one of those days that was about as close to perfect as you can get. First we were going to be babysitting our grandson Logan all day while his parents and older sister went to Six Flags. The good thing was we didn’t need to be there until 9:30. That meant that I could run around 8:00 and and be done and showered by 9:30. So I got up at 7:00 did some warm up exercising and was out the door by 8:00.

I ran a 3.1 (5K) mile course that is pretty flat. It’s the fourth time I’ve run since I was sick with an upper respiratory infection and a touch of pneumonia. Overall, it was the best of the four runs. Here are the results…. read more

Kenny Parker Band’s Hellfire is a Winner!

Hellfire – Kenny Parker Band – A New Favorite

One of my favorite blues albums over the last several months has been Hellfire from Kenny Parker, using it as the soundtrack for a couple of runs. Additionally three of the tracks, “Dance with Me”, “Hellfire” and “Bye, Bye Baby”  are on my most recent Dance-Cardio workout playlist.

I must say that when I first spotted Hellfire on the Roots Music Blues charts, I had never heard of him. Now if I had been a blues fan in Detroit in The late 70s or 90s I probably would know Kenny because that was where he learned his craft. First playing with Mr Bo ( Bo Louis Collins) and the Butler Twins. It was while he was touring Europe with those twins that JSP founder John Stedman signed Kenny to a record deal. Raise the Dead was the  album that resulted from this deal. It was released in 1994. Now 25 years later Hellfire is his sophomore release. And it’s been worth the wait! read more

Walter Trout’s Survivor Blues Powers Tuesday’s Run

The Run 3.14 Miles

So today was supposed to be colder with a chance of some snow, so yesterday was the better day to run. Since my knee still felt slightly funky I decided that once again , I would run my standard 3.1 mile course. By the time I reached the first mile mark my leg felt pretty good. I was running at a 10:01 min/mile pace and running easily,. As I continued my run, I tried to keep my pace a little slower than my last couple of runs. To do that I kept a close eye on my heart rate and when it rose to around 145 or so I slowed down a little. read more

An Afternoon Pick Me Up – “Pigeon Swing” Blues from Tomislav Goluban

Let’s Go “Into The Afternoon” with “Pigeon Swing” From Tomislav Goluban

How about an early afternoon”pick me up”! Here’s Tomislav Goluban with “Pigeon Swing” the opening track of his latest release Chicago Ranbler. I first discovered his music back in 2015 when I listened to his release Blow Junkie. You can check out my review of Blow Junkie and more about Tomislav here

From his website biography….

After 10 studio albums, the proverb “The older – the crazier” definitely applies to Croatian harmonica player Tomislav “Little Pigeon” Goluban, whose songs and performances burst with energy, passion, humour and above all, fantastic music. His surname “Golub” translates to “Pigeon” in English, providin…..g the inspiration for his stage name. Since the start days of playing the harmonica and the small local performances, read more

Today’s Run 4 Miles with a Hill! Music Murder Creek by Wicked Grin

The Run – Four Miles with a Hill!

So after two very cold days the temperatures today rose into the high 40s. As such, it became the first running day of the week. Since I do t like to run on back to back days and Friday is a Target work day, it’s looked like today would be the only run until the weekend. I therefore decided I would make it a tougher run than my normal 5K run. I decided the run would be four miles and would include a run up the highest hill in the area.

The run ended up being another amazing run. I ran the first mile in 9:28. And while the hill, on the second mile, was a struggle my overall pace coming down the other side of the bill was still under 10 min/ mile. I held a steady pace over the last two miles and finished the run with a fairly strong kick. My overall pace for the run was 9:56! Go me!! Here are the results. read more

My Fastest Training 5K-Music by Bryce Janey

Tuesday night before bed I checked what kind of temperatures to expect yesterday morning. The temperatures were predicted to be in the mid-30s, which is perfectly acceptable, to this weather runner! My temperature law is that anything below 30 is just a little too cold! Anyway, I was thinking about adding some distance to my 5K run and running four miles.

I actually did a little work around the house before my run, so I decided to stay with my 5K run.

When I was contemplating my run I want to map the route before hitting the road. I previously would use WalkJogRun to create routes. However last time I tried to use the site I discovered it had stopped working. I had downloaded Map My Fitness, but I have never used it on a run. Anyway, I discovered you can map routes with it. So I checked the route I thought about running and the route would be 4 miles. But as you know I decided it’s to run the 3.1 miles instead. read more
