The EK’s Life Safari’s 2019 Reading Challenge

The EK’s Life Safari’s 2019 Reading Challenge

So since we are now into month two of 2019, I think it is time to final commit to my 2019 Reading Challenge. I have written earlier that my overall goal is to read 72 books in 2019. That’s seven books over my 2018 Challenge Goal. And  while I thought that goal of 65 books was unreachable I made it.So this ea I thought I’d  added some more!

Though the years I have read mostly mysteries and thrillers. Occasionally I read history and political books. and maybe even a few self-help books. A four years ago when I started creating my Reading Challenges my goal was to expand the genres of the books I read. I created challenges to read more science fiction, more general fiction  as well as a variety of non-fiction books. read more

A New Challenge: The June-July Other Worlds Reading Challenge!

I am currently reading the science fiction book , The Human Division by John Scalzi. I have also checked out another sy-fi book The Soldier by Neal Asher. Additionally, I also have books by Greg Bear and Stephen  Baxter on my “to be read” shelf. So I have decided to create a new challenge! My June and July Other Worlds Challenge. The goal is to spend the next two months reading Science Fiction books.

Hmm, as I sit here thinking about this challenge, I wonder if I have created it as a way to get away from this world that I  mcurrently live in. One which in fact seems like an other world horror show? read more

Reading Challenges Update for Mid- April 2018

So far this month, I have finished two books. The first one was Dark Sky the second book in the Keiko series from Mike Brooks. The second was I’ll Keep You Safe from one of my favorite authors Peter May. By finishing those two books I have upped my total books read to 19 books. I am also slightly over halfway through Building the Great Society:Inside Lyndon Johnson’s White House by Joshua Zeitz.

18. Dark Sky – Mike Brooks ( Keiko #2)

This is the second book in the series featuring Captain Ichabod Drift and the crew of the Keiko And after reading the first Keiko book I knew that the easy data extraction from the mining planet of Unagan would not be easy.So I was not surprised when the Captain and crew ended up in the middle of a revolution on the planet. Now the fact that they ended of on opposite sides was surprising!! read more

Finally I Decide on My 2018 Reading Challenges

I Think These Reading Challenges Will Lead to a Great Year of Reading!

Ok so I think that I may have my 2018 Reading Challenges set up.  In total I want to read 65 books. The is 5 over my 2017 of 6o books, but only two morethan I actually read in 2017. This year though I have set up my challenges a little differently.Fina

My biggest challenge this year is to read books that I already have, i.e. books that are either on my Kindle or on my bookshelves. Based on the chart shown below I plan to read 16 books that are currently on my Kindle and five new books that will be added in 2018 for a total of 21 books. Likewise, I want to read 28 books that are currently on my bookshelves. That leaves 16 books that will come from the library. (Note to self good luck with limiting yourself  -big guy!) Ok so the challenges breakdown as follows….. read more

August Reads Recap and Reading Challenges Update….

Where I spent my August

Ok so for a week in August I was in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. But for the rest of the month I was all over the place thanks to the five books that I read. Well actually only four of them took me someplace other than my own mind, which is where You are not Your Brain took me!

My Travels Via My August Reads

A Fool for a Client - Parnell Hall

First, Parnell Hall’s latest Stanley Hastings adventure took me to New York City. In A Fool for a Client Stanley must discover who murdered his boss Richard Rosenberg’s girlfriend. Of course the prime suspect is Richard!  I always have a good time when I visit with Stanley and this trip was a good one! read more

2017 Reading Challenges Mini-Update (Feb 6, 2017)

An Amazing Start on My 2017 Reading Challenges

Ok so I do believe that I would be hard pressed to find two months in the last 15 years where I have read more books than January and February of 2017. In January I read  books and so far in February I have read three more! Bringing 2017’s total of books read to 11! In order to achieve my 2017 Reading Challenge goal of 60 books, I need to average 5 books per month.  I am already above that average in the first week of February!! Goodreads says that right now I am 5 books ahead of schedule! Woo Hoo! read more

2017 Reading Challenges…

This Man Reads 2017 Reading Challenges…..

Two  years ago I signed up for several Reading Challenges on various websites. The result was that the challenges helped me remain more focused with my reading. So last year I created my own Reading Challenges. They were meant to keep me focused and reading a variety of books. So here is my 2017 version.

I probably should have created these reading challenges back  in December, but I was too busy trying to get past 51 books to do it!   But you know that they always say,”Better Late than Never”. So here are my 2017 Reading Challenges. My overall reading challenge is to read 60 books. I didn’t reach that goal in 2016, but I did read more books in 2016 that 2015 so maybe I can reach the goal this year!! read more

A 2016 Reading Challenges Wrap-Up

So since Christmas I have been very bad about writing anything. Sometimes I find myself in a writing funk and well this is one of those times!  We had a great Christmas and like everyone it went by to quickly. Our whole family spent the morning at.Andrew and Meaghan’s . It’s the one house that has enough room for all of us and all the presents for everyone, particularly the two little ones!

Anyway everyone had a good time and I think all of the kids big and little liked their presents. I know I liked mine! I’ll write more about mine over the weekend. read more

October Reads and Reading Challenges Update!

Where DID October Go!

Ok I give up where did October go? Seems like the NFL season just began and now we’re at Week 8. The World Series is at Game 5 and both the NBA and NHL have begun their seasons. And yesterday the two colleges that I attended. As the Universities of Florida and Georgia renewed their heated rivalry.  I really don’t care which team wins most of the time. But it’s always nice when the team that needs it more gets the victory. Since the Gators stayed atop the SEC East with the victory, I was glad they won. read more
