New Audio Connections Lead to New Music Goals!

Connecting All My Audio Equipment Leads to New Music Goals

I mentioned in the last post that I’ve been listening to a lot of music from my music library instead of new music. One of the reasons I’m doing that is I now have my electronic equipment situated so I can play music from just about every media that I have. I now have connected to my receiver the following: an Ion turntable for my vinyl, a five disc CD player, my iPod and a small cassette tape player.

The receiver has three playback ports. The ports are a turntable port, a tape player port and CD/auxiliary port. Initially, I connected the turntable to the turntable port and the sound was too loud and horrible. When I connected it to the CD port it was fine. read more

Can I Get Over My Blogging Blues?

OK so  over the last month or so I have had a hard time making myself write a post. I have started several posts only to get distracted, I then leave the post and find reasons not to finish it. It’s not like I’ve fallen off the “{Better Next Year” wagon.I’m still moving forward and actually doing well! For example, my weight has been fluctuating right around my 2018 goal weight since October. I have been eating well since then also.

I also have been running fairly consistently through the winter and my mile per minute pace has been its  fastest in years. Likewise in my non-running days my workouts are still pretty strong. I have also been doing a nightly yoga routine that as gotten rid of a few minor aches and pains. read more

Hello and Welcome to A Jazzy, Proggy, New Age Safari.

Hello and Welcome to A Jazzy, Proggy,New Age Safari.

I’m EKReader and I’ll be your guide on this safari. On this Safari we will be exploring the jazz, progressive rock and New Age music genres. Actually you will be joining me several years into the safari. That’s the reason there are so many posts already on this website.

I started blogging about the books that I read and the music that I listen to about eight years ago. Initially, I wrote mainly about mysteries and Americana music. After about four years of blogging, I started to explore both the jazz and progressive rock genres in more detail. I had always liked jazz. But through the years, I mostly listened to Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith and occasionally Miles Davis. Now though, I wanted to know more about the musicians who were Miles, Wes and Jimmy’s contemporaries, as well as, today’s jazz musicians. read more

New Age – Healing Music from Michael Brant DeMaria – The Maiden of Stonehenge!

The Maiden of Stonehenge
Michael Brant DeMaria

So the other day I was browsing through the Zone Music Reporter’s New Age Top 100 Radio Air Play chart and I spotted down at #87 an interesting looking album titled The Maiden of Stonehenge by Michael Brant DeMaria. Not knowing anything more about the album, than that it had both an interesting title and a cool cover (there I go again dating myself). I downloaded it on to the iPhone and gave it a listen. As soon as I heard the flute on the first track “Lost Village” I knew that I was going to like the album and I was very, very correct!! read more

A Return to Its Roots for Me,Myself,Music and Mysteries and FreeWheelin’ Music Safari Cranks it Up!!

Ok so when I started this blog, my thoughts were to write about the music that I’ve listened to over the years and the books that I read. Well, as the site developed it started to morph into more of Edward explores new roots music, bur I still stayed within the general Americana genre which includes, folk, bluegrass, Americana, and blues with a little jazz and New Age thrown in. Then I started to spread out and include some prog rock, and I found that I really like that genre. Next came jazz and explorations of that genre has fascinated me. Over the last year I’ve discovered many new jazz artists that I really like. Now I’ve expanded into World Music and more New Age, yikes!! Over the last month or so I’ve started another site FreeWheelin’ Music Safari to have a place to chronicle these new explorations. The reason for that is, I don’t know how many people are as diverse in the their musical tastes. Do people who like prog rock like folk and bluegrass, I doubt it,Conversely do people who are fans of New Age like twangy Americana, again, I don’t think so. So from this point forward. Me, Myself, Music and Mysteries will return to its roots and go back to mostly twangy music. I will have a link at both sites directing readers to the other site, if they ARE as eclectic in their tastes as I am!! I will do my best to keep both sites going ( I think I’ll just have headphones surgically implanted) read more
